I was looking at the new advertisement for Claudeforce, and I was actually impressed. The writing, the message, is very personal, very deep. It is entertaining, engaging, uplifting. It gives you the energy you would expect from this kind of ad.
You can clearly see how well crafted it is: the writing, how things are put together, how they guide you through a set of emotions and let you visualize parts of your daily work life, at least for some people. There is some good writing there.
It made me think about one of the first years when I was getting my degree in computer science. We were doing some additional, optional courses, and one was about writing. It wasn’t about writing per se, but I remember this one episode, and it’s stuck with me ever since.
This guy came into the classroom and said, “Hey, writing is everything.” What you write to people can make a big difference. You can create some beautiful stuff.
He gave us 29 random words and asked us to use them all to create something. I don’t remember how much time he gave us to write a piece. I think it was half an hour or something.
But to me, what was more interesting was that he did the exercise himself, too. What he came up with was absolutely beautiful to listen to. I remember being mesmerized because I couldn’t believe you could make sense of those random words. But he did. He created a storyline around them, which is similar to what I saw today with Claudeforce.
Even today, with Claude and ChatGPT having access to our knowledge and being trained on it, you can see how the way they write is still far from human. It’s still far from that deep, personal connection that some writers are able to create.
Maybe things will change. Maybe things will shift. But at this moment, I’m looking at that and thinking how much power, inspiration, and creativity still lies within our human mind, and how much of that can still inspire, guide, and influence the people around us.
Whenever you think you don’t have options, think twice.
